Easthampton schools laid out cuts tied to the June 9 override vote. Superintendent Michelle Balch told the School Committee that a successful Proposition 2½ override would require $922,603 in cuts to the proposed fiscal 2027 budget, while a failed override would require $2,771,418. A failed vote would eliminate or reduce 24 positions at Mountain View School and 11 at Easthampton High and end funded athletics and club stipends.
Mayor Salem Derby said, "This is not fear-mongering. This is reality." The committee took no budget vote after 26 speakers in the first public comment period and seven in a second one, and approved a $500 preschool donation 6-0.
