Granby School Committee adopts new ELA, civics curriculum and approves bus contract

GRANBY — May 26, 2026 — Granby School Committee reorganizes, approves curriculum and $796,809 bus contract. The committee reappointed Jennifer Bartosz as chair and Trevor Agostino as vice chair at its May 26 reorganization meeting, and seated newly elected member Thomas Hamill, a former Chicopee public utilities administrator, on the Budget and Finance Subcommittee. The committee unanimously adopted three state-vetted, free curriculum programs — Guidebooks for grades 6-8 ELA, Odell High School Literacy for grades 9-12, and a Democratic Knowledge Project civics course for grade 8 — completing an alignment effort building since 2022. A three-year bus transportation contract with First Student, the sole bidder on a joint bid with Ware and Belchertown, was accepted at $796,809.80 per year, 12.56 percent above the prior contract. Superintendent Mary Jane Rickson warned that rural school aid from the state has fallen to $12 million this year, against an identified need of $60 million, telling the committee: "Next year, districts are going to be decimated."
