Other Committee · Meeting of October 6, 2026
NORTHAMPTON — A city commission heard a proposal to name a Northampton place for Bethsheba Hull. Guests Trenda Lofton, Betel Patel Arnold and Harley Erdman described Hull, who was enslaved here and lost her island land in the 1760s, and suggested a plaza, street or park near the Roundhouse and Peter Pan parking lot. Commissioner Bill Newman asked about using "place" in the name, echoing "Sojourner Truth Way." Commissioners approved September's minutes unanimously and agreed to draft the recommendation for the final report.
Commissioner Sudan said he was talking with Greenfield Savings Bank about a homebuyer fund, and Commissioner Morris presented three eligibility criteria. The commission said three meetings remain.
