Other Committee · Meeting of October 20, 2026
NORTHAMPTON — The Northampton Transportation and Parking Commission held off on a resident request to limit parking to one side of Ice Pond Drive. Councilor Dubbs told the panel he visited the street twice Tuesday and found "zero cars parked on the street" either time, while Chief Cartledge said department logs showed no parking complaints there "going back over 10 years." Commissioner Nancy said the only documented complaints involved one property where contractor vehicles had crowded the roadway temporarily. The commission, chaired for the first time by new Director of Public Works Rich, approved its June 16 and August 18 minutes 5-0 with two abstentions and directed staff to invite the original applicant to present the parking request at a future meeting.
Resident Alex Bowman used public comment to criticize the commission's format as "a one-way conversation" that leaves requests, including bike path maintenance, unanswered.
