School Committee · Meeting of May 26, 2026

AMHERST — The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee approved a one-year advanced Spanish pilot for seventh graders at Amherst Regional Middle School. Celia Sinkowski, the district's multilingual learner education administrator, said the pilot would convert one of four Spanish 1 sections, with no added staff and a data review before any long-term decision. Committee members raised concerns about mixing Caminantes graduates with heritage speakers and about how the roughly 24 seats would be allocated.

The roll call recorded six yes votes and two no votes. The committee separately rejected the proposed FY27 fee schedule 6-3 and approved a cross-country gift of $2,000 per year, up to $100,000, 6-1 with two abstentions.
