Easthampton's Rent Study Committee heard from landlords and developers on a possible local rent stabilization petition. Chair Kiam Jamrog-McQuaid presented background, noting 40 percent of renter households are cost burdened and median rent rose almost 30 percent from 2018 to 2024. Landlords asked for pass-throughs for taxes, insurance, water and sewer, and major repairs, and said CPI "doesn't really reflect the actual cost." Committee member David Boyle suggested a cap of CPI plus 3 to 5 percent.
A member offered to open his books. No votes were taken, and the committee plans an online comment form.
