EASTHAMPTON — The Rent Study Committee added a July 27 meeting to speed work on a rent stabilization petition. Chair Kiam Jamrog-McQuaid said a home rule petition needs standalone legislation with its own findings, purpose and definitions, and that he has a call scheduled with Representative Connolly on whether a draft ordinance must accompany it. The committee plans to present the petition to the City Council in September and press for a vote by December.
A public survey developed by the chair and member Donna Cuipylo will stay open until Aug. 14. One member said the group was "clear-eyed from the beginning" about the odds at the State House. The committee adjourned on a 6-0 vote.
