Planning Board continues two contested housing hearings to Sept. 1

Planning Board · Meeting of August 18, 2026

Easthampton Planning Board continues two contested housing hearings to Sept. 1. The board unanimously pushed back votes on a 14-unit development at 132-134 West Street and a 12-unit apartment building at 336 Main Street after neighbors raised traffic and drainage concerns, including at the South Street and Main Street intersection, which resident Donna Geiss called "deadly as it is." Engineer Becky Sparkle told the board the West Street project would keep 89 percent of the site as open space while planting 132 new trees. Members also flagged that Easthampton's city engineer post is currently vacant, leaving no independent review of the Main Street project's stormwater design.

Separately, the board unanimously approved minor amendments to the Pine View Estates permit on Loudville Road, extending its roadway paving deadline to June 15, 2027, and appointed member Wendy Taylor-Jourdian as its representative to the Community Preservation Committee.
