EASTHAMPTON — The Planning Board approved a special permit for Riverside Industries' 1 Cottage Street mill building. The permit lets the nonprofit lease space to a broad list of Mill Industrial uses reviewed administratively by building, fire and health officials. Planning staff said no earlier permit could be found, though the building has operated this way for about 50 years.
Interim President and CEO Marcus Jones asked for approval without special conditions, calling the building "a special and fragile place." The board added a condition requiring payment of the legal ad fee. It also endorsed a Loudville Road lot-line change that raises 155 Loudville's frontage from 80 to 114 feet, continued the Lathrop Community hearing to June 16, and adopted a new fee structure effective immediately.
