EASTHAMPTON — The Board of Public Works heard a revised Main Street design that removed the planned Park Street traffic signal. Designers from Bowman, including lead designer Paul Burrow, said a MassDOT intersection control evaluation favored a one-way stop on Park Street over a signal. The plan includes a 10-foot shared use path, a raised plaza with ramps, and a net loss of about eight parking spaces.
A presenter said pedestrian safety "was paramount." The board approved two sets of minutes, and a motion was made to continue the enterprise indirect cost allocation item, with no audible vote recorded. A city staff member said about $1.8 million in state and federal funds for the Safe Routes to School path depended on $300,000 to $500,000 in city right-of-way costs.
