Hadley Names Police Chief Emergency Management Director

Select Board · Meeting of September 16, 2026

Hadley Select Board and Finance Committee weigh $5.9 million to $9.7 million in Hopkins Academy HVAC options. Trane representatives Morgan Paris and Atul Gupta presented three paths to replace the 1960s-era steam system: air-source heat pumps at a net cost of $5.9 million, geothermal at $7.2 million, and a steam-to-hot-water conversion near $6 million. Superintendent Andy McKenzie said, "Our goal is not to convince you to do any particular thing." Board members pressed on redundancy, phasing and surprise costs after repair bills climbed to roughly $44,000 last year.

Separately, the board unanimously approved Eversource's petition for six new utility poles on Aquavita Road and appointed Police Chief Michael Mason as emergency management director. Resident Lisa Wolf urged caution on the department's license-plate-reader camera, citing pending class-action lawsuits against manufacturer Flock Safety.
