Hadley Panel Trims Fire, Sewer Capital Requests

Finance Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026

Hadley finance and capital panels approve $2.2 million in capital spending but stall on a $6 million school heating overhaul. Meeting jointly, the Finance Committee and Capital Planning Committee voted 3-0 to approve $2,247,030 in fiscal 2027 requests, after trimming a sewer asset management item from $1 million to $750,000 and a fire department exhaust system from $75,000 to $60,000. Acting Fire Chief Bob Flaherty won backing for a new F-150 to replace a 2007 vehicle that has failed inspection since 2024.

Members deferred a roughly $6 million school heating conversion and a $926,000 solar battery project, saying conflicting cost figures and an unresolved payback calculation left them "questions that we have to have answered." The panels rescheduled their next meeting to Wednesday, September 23, hoping to get answers before Hadley's October 22 Town Meeting.
