Granby School Committee approves tech disposal, hears budget passed with $30,000 amendment
GRANBY — June 9, 2026 — Granby School Committee approves technology and textbook disposal, learns school budget passed Town Meeting with a $30,000 floor amendment for playground mulch at East Meadow Elementary. The committee voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize annual disposal of broken Chromebooks and worn textbooks, with the district's technology recycling vendor handling pickup and data destruction at no cost. Business Director Todd reported the school department's budget cleared Town Meeting the night before at level services, with the mulch amendment added on the floor and also passing. The committee declined to waive readings on a new student seclusion and restraint policy drafted by special education law firm Hesse LaHaye, sending it to a policy subcommittee for comparison against the Massachusetts Association of School Committees model before the June 23 meeting. Superintendent Mary Jane announced three retirements totaling 62 combined years of service — payroll specialist Mary Houle after 24 years, Barbara Buys after 29, and art instructor Charlene Cloutier after nine — with a public farewell event set for June 17 at 11 a.m. in the East Meadow Cafeteria. The committee closed the meeting in executive session to discuss Unit A collective bargaining.
