Granby Conservation Commission Approves Carver Street Home, Continues Four Other Cases

GRANBY — March 10, 2026 — Granby Conservation Commission approves one home permit and delays four others to April 14. The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to issue an Order of Conditions for a Carver Street single-family home owned by Alan Cauitz, closing a hearing that had stretched across multiple meetings; the order requires recording at the Hampshire County Registry of Deeds within 30 days of the March 13 issuance date and mandates a posted DEP project sign, a tracking pad, and a Request for Certificate of Compliance at project completion. Three separate notices of intent — for homes on East State Street (applicant Nick Waller), Morgan Street (owner Vitali Babage), and a Request for Determination of Applicability for a South Street parcel (applicant Benjamin Kindle) — were all continued to April 14 because none had board of health-approved septic designs. The Morgan Street project drew the sharpest scrutiny: the commission's agent told consultant Steve Riberty the application's alternatives analysis amounted to "two sentences" and urged him to explore reducing three septic leaching trenches to two 200-foot runs, potentially moving a proposed seven-bedroom house entirely out of the riverfront buffer zone. A fifth case, an Abbreviated Notice of Resource Area Delineation for a 33-acre parcel on New Lelo Road filed by Maring Excavating Inc. for Tan Realty Corporation, was also continued to April pending delivery of a peer-review deposit check — without which the commission said it cannot engage hired reviewer Emily Stockman.
