City Council · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Easthampton councilors sent the Israel-Palestine divestment resolution to the Finance Committee. The City Council voted 9-0 Sept. 2 to refer the measure, which urges the Treasurer and Retirement Board to divest from companies tied to rights violations and cites an estimated $454,000 in such investments. Council President Koni Denham said she supports the resolution but wants the City Solicitor's answer to a conflict-of-interest question first.
Dozens of residents spoke, some citing a Northampton lawsuit and others a resident petition. The council also approved a $464.13 supplemental appropriation and added an unfunded Grade E Recreation Coordinator to the pay plan.
