City Council · Meeting of September 15, 2026

EASTHAMPTON — A City Council committee revised a draft code of conduct for appointed board and commission members. The draft would become Division 13 of Article Three and require state ethics commission training within 30 days. Members agreed to wording telling appointees to put "the community's welfare ahead of all other interests" and limited the family-member provision to "immediate family," deferring to state law.

The draft, built on a proposal by former Councilor Brad Riley, is to go to ordinance and legal reviewers before returning. Members also weighed letting the council president approve exceptions to a one-chair-per-councilor rule, and the sponsor floated dropping the idea as too complicated.
