Northampton Conservation Commission approves contractor yard fence on Bradford Street with a no-salt condition and mandatory signage. The commission voted 5-0 at its January 8 meeting to issue an order of conditions to applicant David Short for fence installation within the riverfront buffer zone off Bradford Street, accessed from Industrial Drive. The revised plan, presented by Philippe Cravo of Barlevesque Associates in place of engineer Ryan Nelson, added approximately 453 square feet of new native vegetation and pulled the fence line back to widen the buffer from the tree line.

Commissioners added conditions requiring all 10 newly planted native shrubs to survive — or be replaced — for two years post-planting and that invasive species be managed around the new plantings. The sharpest discussion concerned winter maintenance: one commissioner argued that a standard order-of-conditions prohibition on road salt would never reach an early-morning plow driver, and the commission required that prominent signs be posted on the lot informing snow removal contractors that no salt or ice-melt agents may be applied to the gravel surface, which drains toward adjacent wetlands and a brook.
