Northampton Parks & Recreation issues mandatory water ban as summer programming continues.

TOWN -- The city's Parks & Recreation Department is currently operating under a "Mandatory Water Ban," according to an alert posted on the department's website. The department's summer slate remains active, including programming at Musante Beach and the Aquatic & Family Center, though the site did not list specific schedule changes tied to the ban for this period.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Northampton Soccer Club (NSC) has posted its Fall 2026 season information. Registration ran May 15-31. Travel soccer games are set to begin Sept. 12, with schedules to be posted on the league website, and practices beginning in mid-August; pre-travel sessions will run on Saturdays with dates still to be determined. Practices and home games will generally be held at Florence Fields, though the club noted some U11-U14 teams may practice at JFK Middle School this season. NSC also highlighted new conduct policies for the coming season: U.S. Soccer has increased minimum penalties for misconduct toward officials, adding a "Gross Misconduct" category, and the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association has instituted a new pre-game routine featuring a sportsmanship statement and pre-game handshake. "We expect all Northampton coaches, players, and parents to set an exceptionally high standard for the rest of the league when it comes to our treatment of referees and opponents," the club said.
