Hadley School Board Approves Five Strategy Documents

School Committee · Meeting of September 28, 2026

Hadley Elementary Principal Jennifer Dowd named national Project Lead the Way Administrator of the Year, the only one chosen from 100 nominees. Superintendent Annie McKenzie made the announcement at Monday's School Committee meeting, noting the district has held distinguished-school status four years running with 100 percent K-6 participation in the program. The committee unanimously approved five items: an outdoor classroom trip to Ocean Park, Maine, at $378 per student, the preschool handbook, and strategy documents for Hopkins Academy, Hadley Elementary and the district, plus a vote to auction the district's oldest school bus.

No school HVAC capital items will appear on the Special Town Meeting warrant; Superintendent McKenzie said converting from steam to hot water heat is a prerequisite for future state building-authority funding. Chair Humira Pegg asked "What is our standing or cause for attempting to bring in a lawsuit against OpenAI?" as members debated, without voting, whether to join other districts weighing litigation over social media and AI harm to students.
