Forestry panel approves minutes, refers email question to counsel
Other Committee · Meeting of June 3, 2026
Northampton forestry panel refers email coordination to counsel over open meeting law concerns. The Urban Forestry Commission approved its April 15 minutes 4-0 and heard the chair report the city's Tree City USA Growth Award recognition, with a ceremony set for June 16 at Forest Park. Member Kent flagged errors surfacing in the tree inventory database as 20 volunteers begin work across 16 assigned zones, which led member Susan to warn that "those topics and those discussions have to happen right in this forum" rather than by email.
Members agreed to stop reply-all threads and asked Rich Parasoliti to seek guidance from outside counsel Alan Seawald. Separately, the commission reported 24 trees planted at a JFK Middle School Arbor Day event and roughly 60 trees planted so far this spring, with a five-townhouse Maple Avenue project expected to still require removal of five public shade trees.
