Amherst Commission Advances Brompton Road Landmark Nomination to Public Hearing

Historic Preservation · Meeting of January 13, 2026

Amherst Historic Preservation Commission advances one landmark nomination and tables another. At its January 13 meeting, the commission voted 6-0 to move a landmark designation nomination for 305 Brompton Road, with a period of significance dating to 1924, to a public hearing scheduled for March 10 at 7 p.m. A nomination for 1 Cloister Court was tabled after commissioners concluded the package still lacked a complete architectural narrative, with one member asking, "if we thought it needed a narrative before, I don't know why we wouldn't think it would need a narrative now." The commission also approved a budget amendment raising spending on a display tablecloth from $100 to $275, discussed filling a vacant engineer's seat left by the departure of a member identified as Norm, and began organizing a working group of up to three members to revise the town's historic preservation code, with plans to involve the town attorney's office as early as February.
