Southampton Town Board Approves $10 Million Lewis Road PRD Settlement, Two Police Promotions
Town Board · Meeting of July 14, 2026
Southampton Town Board approves $10 million Lewis Road PRD settlement and promotes two police officers. The board unanimously authorized a settlement of three pending legal matters tied to the Lewis Road Planned Residential Development, formerly known as the Hills MUPDD, along with a $10 million land transfer and other considerations including the dedication of more than 32 acres to the town and permanent public easements for a recreational trail and parking on Spinney Road. Highway Superintendent Charlie McArdle, who led two years of negotiation, said the town "went from a $100 million potential liability to a net benefit," a characterization echoed by East Quog resident Chris Connolly during public comment.
A public hearing on the associated zoning amendment is set for August 11 at 1 p.m. The board also unanimously promoted Sergeant Michael Walsh to lieutenant and Police Officer Dylan Kelly to sergeant, with Police Chief Kiernan noting the department also received a Suffolk County proclamation that morning marking its 75th anniversary.
