Southampton Select Board Approves 25-Article Warrant, Schedules June 20 Special Town Meeting

SOUTHAMPTON — April 22, 2026 — Southampton Select Board approves 25-article annual town meeting warrant and books a June 20 special town meeting. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the warrant, which includes a base budget, two override options, a $400,000 Community Preservation Act appropriation to establish an affordable housing trust, and eight other CPA articles totaling more than $500,000. Town Administrator Scott said free cash certification from the state Division of Local Services is not expected before the May 2 annual town meeting, forcing the removal of free cash articles from the warrant; those items could be addressed at the June 20 special. The board also voted unanimously to schedule that special town meeting for 10 a.m. at North School should the need arise. Town Moderator Robert Floyd opened the session with an extended briefing on parliamentary reconsideration, warning that Southampton has a history of members waiting until late in a session — after others have left — to move reconsideration of a passed article, a practice he said he intends to curtail at the May 2 meeting.
