Southampton Select Board Accepts Resignation, Approves Fire Grant Bids Totaling Nearly $1 Million

SOUTHAMPTON — June 23, 2026 — Southampton Select Board accepts board member's resignation and approves fire equipment grants nearing $1 million. The board voted unanimously at its June 23 meeting to regretfully accept the resignation of member Ellen DeBurge, effective June 17, leaving the five-seat panel at four members with roughly one year remaining on her two-year term. Chair Chris Lumbra reported the town submitted two Assistance to Firefighters Grant applications to FEMA before Monday's deadline — $701,000 for a tanker pumper and $250,000 for 22 self-contained breathing apparatus units — each requiring only a 5 percent town match, totaling roughly $47,500 in combined local exposure. The board also learned it is "99 and a half percent sure" of receiving a MassTrails grant of approximately $240,000 for the final Greenway design engineering phase, and voted unanimously to authorize signatures on a conservation restriction for a Forma Road property to be held by Kestrel Land Trust. Town Administrator Scott was authorized to sign a support letter for a separate $370,000 land acquisition grant for the triple brick property on Middle Road.
