Plainfield Select Board Votes to Schedule January 28 Special Town Meeting for Cruiser Purchase

PLAINFIELD — January 13, 2026 — Plainfield Select Board schedules January 28 special town meeting to fund a new police cruiser. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to accept a lease-to-own financing plan for an $87,702 Ford cruiser from Colonial Ford of Plymouth, structured as a three-year arrangement through Ford Credit requiring a $30,000 down payment. Sergeant Dan Tebo told the board the town's cruiser stabilization fund holds only about $10,000 and requested authorization to draw an additional $20,000 from the general stabilization fund — a move that requires a town-meeting vote under state law. The Finance Committee endorsed the financing plan at its meeting the night before. Tebo estimated a 12-to-14-week build and delivery window, putting the vehicle's arrival in April or May. The board also heard from Planning Board Chair Peter LaPointe that the solar project at 66 North Union Street cleared its appeal period on January 3 without challenge, while a public hearing for a second project at 20 East Street is set for February 11 and a state official will present new large-scale solar regulations at the February 4 Planning Board meeting.
