Hadley Library Trustees Explore Northampton Fundraising Model, Flag LEED Stall

HADLEY — May 19, 2026 — Hadley Library trustees discussed a stalled LEED certification and an emerging endowment fundraising effort at their May 19 meeting. A trustee identified as Joanne announced plans to meet Thursday with Rachel, a Forbes Library of Northampton trustee and financial planner, to learn how that library built a roughly $2 million endowment — a model the Hadley board hopes to adapt rather than "reinvent the wheel." Trustees also flagged an unanticipated $2,080 expense for wireless access points tied to the library's CW MARS consortium connection, which they said can be covered by existing resources. On LEED certification, which one trustee said the library "was supposed to get many years ago," the board noted that the building's architect has been unresponsive to inquiries about alternative certification pathways and said incoming Town Administrator Nate Malloy, who started May 11, may be enlisted to help. Director Patrick's one-year contract, effective July 1, was signed at the meeting.
