Conservation · Meeting of October 8, 2026

Northampton's Conservation Commission continued two wetlands permits and closed out a 1999 driveway case. Commissioners pushed Smith College's Mill River streambank stabilization permit to January 14, 2027, after a roll call hampered by dropped connections. They also continued Cooley Dickinson Hospital's Hospital Road vegetation-clearing plan to November 12, 2026, after Member R.

Downey Meyer argued a seed mix "won't combat the invasives" and Member Elizabeth Spriggs backed low shrubs like ninebark instead. Consultant Neve Duffy of Tighe & Bond said the hospital would hire a landscape architect before returning. Member Benjamin Hood recused from that vote.

The board unanimously, 7-0, granted a certificate of compliance for a 1999 driveway project at 525 Mount Tom Road, DEP File 246-0457.
