Board of Assessors · Meeting of October 27, 2026

BELCHERTOWN — The Belchertown Board of Assessors voted unanimously to accept 23 Chapter 61B land-classification applications and approved Chapter 61 forestry applications at its October 27 meeting. Members also approved minutes from the October 13 meeting, including its executive session, and voted to enter executive session to review fiscal year 2027 property tax exemption applications and fiscal year 2028 Chapter 61A applications. Much of the meeting focused on preparing data for the Select Board's upcoming tax classification hearing, expected around November 16.

Members estimated that without splitting the tax rate, average homeowner bills would still rise by less than $200, while splitting the rate could push average commercial bills up by roughly $4,100, about 40 percent more than current bills estimated at $8,000 to $9,000 annually. "We just want to make sure we present as much factual accurate data to the people as possible," one board member said, adding the goal was to keep the tax burden "equitable to everybody."
